Huntley Area Public Library To Close March 8 For Continued Construction

We’re approaching a fresh new year and it is going to start off with some exciting news from your library. Phase one of the construction project is nearly completed. It’s time to Kiss the Old Library Goodbye!

What does that mean for you?
It means that the library will be closing on March 8, 2021, so that we can move materials, equipment and staff into the new space, while construction crews prepare to renovate the existing library building. We’re calling this move Smoosh II: The Sequel. During the move, the library will have to close for a yet undetermined time frame. We’re hoping the process takes approximately 4 weeks, but it may require more time.

The library will be closed from March 8 up to April 19, 2021. These dates are tentative and may change. In the event that the move is completed early, we will make every attempt to reopen as soon as possible.

We know that this can be frustrating, but the good news is that you may keep any items you have checked out for a longer period of time (and we hope you all check out lots and lots of items).

Items won’t need to be returned until April 30, 2021.

Unfortunately, it also means you will not be able to place holds on items, check out items for Book Clubs, or utilize the Library2Go service.

• Book drops won’t be open as we prepare for the drive-up window installation.
• The entrance for the library will be moving to the east end of the building.
• A staff member will be stationed by the door to help you navigate the new facility, answer questions, and assist with deliveries and returns when we reopen.

We cannot wait for you to see the changes to your library. We’ll be sharing information about new services and opportunities for you to explore once the entire library is completed. These fresh, new services will be highlighted over the coming months in the pages of the library’s Whole Story newsletter.

We know that these temporary changes to the library are not convenient, but they are necessary. Your patience is greatly appreciated, and it will be worth the wait.
