Huntley Man Killed In Two-Car Crash Caused By Icy Roads: Police

William Granias died after police said his car was hit by a truck that lost control after hitting an icy patch in Hampshire Township.

HUNTLEY, IL — An 80-year-old Huntley man was killed Sunday morning when he was involved in a two-vehicle crash that police said was caused due to icy road conditions in unincorporated Hampshire Township.

William Granias died after being airlifted to a Libertyville hospital after the crash, which took place just after 9 a.m., police said. Granias was driving west on Allen Road when a truck driven by a Hampshire man lost control and crossed into the path of Granias’ oncoming car, police said.

Police said that Jose Vieyra, 60, lost control of his truck after hitting an icy patch of the road. Vieyra, along with a passenger, Irma Rodriguez, 58, Hampshire, were both released at the scene of the crash, police said.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to investigate the crash and is asking anyone who witnessed the accident to call the department’s investigative unit at (630) 444-1103.

Police said it is unknown if drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
