The following is an open letter I have emailed a short time ago to the new President of The University of Chicago, President Paul Alivisatos.

Dear President Alivisatos,

Find out what's happening in Hyde Parkfor free with the latest updates from Patch.

As you know, in the 1950s Julian Levi of the University of Chicago; and Mayor Richard J Daley ... began the first large 'Urban Renewal' in US History. It was said that the University officials, prior to the Urban Renewal, had discussed, within the range of options, MOVING the entire University of Chicago ... elsewhere in the U.S.

Whether or not that moving story is 100% accurate, if you read below, you will see that there are residents of Hyde Park who have sustained sufficiently frequent crime attacks, that they report below that they have moved out of Hyde Park; or are planning on doing this.

You must take action.

You must work with Mayor Lightfoot and Governor Pritzker, and at least temporarily bring in sufficient National Guard troops to patrol Hyde Park long enough to end the current crime wave. The Mayor would also likely choose to place National Guard troops elsewhere in the City.

To me there is no other choice; and you must act today, and you must convince the Mayor that this must be done today.

Sincerely,

Sid Colton, UofC Class of 1973, BA'89 Behavioral Science
