Opinion: You Must Join Social Media, President Alivisatos!

The long era of The University of Chicago conducting its business in near-secret must end: UofC must join social media, enthusiastically!

Dear Readers,

It is so much more important than ever, that NO major institution fails to interact openly and fully with its neighbors. Here is a copy of this email I just wrote and sent to President Paul Alivisatos of The University of Chicago. -Sid:

Dear President Alivisatos,

I believe things are improving.

Find out what's happening in Hyde Parkfor free with the latest updates from Patch.

However the record of many many parts of The University of Chicago in communicating-and-interacting with both its students and with the Hyde Park and neighboring communities ... has been awful over the past 70 years or so.

Can you be sure that all parts of the UofC, especially the UofC Police and the UofC community affairs departments, are now aggressively interacting with our students, our alumni, our staff, our faculty, and the Hyde Park community ... via every important social media outlet.

I am sure you agree, no good comes from a total-lack-of-communication; and enormous good for everyone comes, with open and visible and easy communication between the University and its neighbors!

Thank you very much.
