2 Dogs Rescued, Joliet Homeowner Rushed To Hospital After Fire

JOLIET — Joliet Fire Department battalion chief James Ryan announced that crews from Stations 1, 5, 6, 8 and 9 responded to Wednesday night's house fire at 1520 Prairie Avenue on the city's west side that sent the homeowner to the hospital while two dogs were rescued.

Ryan said the fire broke out around 7:30 p.m.

Fire crews were met with heavy smoke from two sides of the structure. Fire crews found the homeowner outside with a complaint of smoke inhalation and superficial burns. Crews made entry to find heavy fire in the front bedroom of the one-story home. While searching the first-floor, fire crews rescued two family dogs, one suffered from smoke inhalation and was provided first aid and transported to a veterinarian for further treatment.

The homeowner was taken to the hospital for further assessment. Fire crews were on the scene for one hour and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
