Another Home Alone Arrest By Joliet Police: Mother's 3 Kids Taken Into DCFS Custody

JOLIET, IL — For the second time in two weeks, Joliet police have arrested a mother in connection with allegations that she left her children home all alone.

This past weekend, Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said that 30-year-old Artesia Titus of Joliet was charged with child abandonment and endangering the life or health of a child.

According to English, at 10:53 p.m. on Friday, officers responded to an apartment at Riverwalk Homes, 363 North Broadway Street, for a welfare check. At the huge public housing complex, the officers located an 8-year-old boy and two girls ages 6 and 7, alone in the apartment with no adult present. Officers placed all three children into protective custody.

English said that Titus arrived at the apartment and identified herself as the mother of the children. At this point, officers had been with the children for over 10 minutes. Titus was placed into custody without incident.

English said the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services was notified and responded to the Joliet Police Department. The children were released to the care of their grandmother. As for Titus, she was processed at the Joliet Police Department and released on a notice to appear at the Will County Courthouse.

According to police spokesman Dwayne English, at 6:17 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29, officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of South May Street for a report of a 4-year-old child that was possibly home alone without parental supervision.
