Bamboozled Woman Lost Cash, Clothes & Electronics to Teen Posing as Lawyer: Cops

He pretended to be an attorney and a prosecutor, and also claimed he was in jail and needed bond money, police said.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — A local teen conned a young woman out of cash, clothes and electronics by pretending he was locked up and needed bond money, according to a criminal complaint filed in Will County court.

Marcus Robinson, 19, faces a charge of felony theft in connection with his alleged deception.

Nearly a year ago, Robinson ripped off a 24-year-old woman by pretending “he had been arrested and needed money to bond out,” the complaint said.

Robinson also “posed as both an assistant state’s attorney named ‘AJ’ and a private attorney named ‘Mary,’ demanding money and material goods … purportedly to be released on bond and to retain private counsel to provide a defense for the (his) purported arrest,” the complaint said.

Robinson’s relationship to the young woman, who also lives in Romeoville, was not explained in the complaint.

This isn’t the first time Robinson allegedly attempted to prey on a young woman, according to court papers. Just last month, he pleaded guilty to menacing an underage girl “via electronic communication,” threatening that she would be “harmed by a gang if she did not send him a nude photo of herself,” a criminal complaint said.

Robinson was sentenced to two years of court supervision for that crime.

Robinson remains at large. The warrant for his arrest carries a $50,000 bond.
