Cops & Firefighters Sent to Joliet Home 44 Times in 61 Days For Intoxicated Man’s 911 Calls: Police

The caller always ended up refusing assistance, police said.

JOLIET, IL — A Joliet man’s habit of repeatedly calling 911 without having an actual emergency that needed to be attended to landed him in jail Thursday morning, police said.

The police and fire departments have reportedly responded to the East Washington Street home of Marshall Shoop 44 times since New Year’s Day.

Shoop, 54, was at it again early Thursday morning, police said, calling 911 three times in less than an hour and a half.

Shoop’s 82-year-old female roommate was at Silver Cross Hospital, police said, and the first time he called 911, he wanted a cab sent to his place so he could visit her there.

The second time, Shoop reportedly said his roommate had returned from the hospital and that he was “chasing her around.”

The third time he called, Shoop claimed he needed an ambulance because his roommate was “bleeding like a stuck pig,” police said.

An officer showed up at Shoop’s place and spoke to the roommate, who was not bleeding like a stuck pig, police said. She reportedly told the officer she did not need medical assistance and was not even aware Shoop had called 911.

Shoop was still in the house, police said, and he smelled of alcohol and was holding a beer.

On each of the previous occasions Shoop called 911 and either the cops or fire department responded, he appeared intoxicated and refused assistance, police said.

Shoop was taken to the Will County jail.
