Cops Trying to Take $312 From Joliet Man Charged With Christmastime Killing

The Joliet man faces a murder charge and may lose $312 to the police.

JOLIET, IL — A Joliet man facing a murder charge in connection with a Christmastime killing on Broadway might lose $312 to the Joliet Police Department.

The Will County State’s Attorney’s Office has filed a petition to take away 23-year-old Toddrick Pinnick’s pocket cash. Pinnick was arrested Dec. 30 and charged with the murder of Brian Byrd.

Byrd, 24, was shot in the head as he drove down Broadway near Ingalls Avenue Dec. 23. Byrd’s aunt Samone Meadows said he was on his way home from last-minute Christmas shopping when he was killed.

The police said Byrd and Pinnick had been feuding for more than a year but did not disclose what was at the root of the supposed dispute.

Another man and woman — Cherish Mercer, 20, and Deonta Moore, 24 — were arrested along with Pinnick. Mercer, Moore and Pinnick were all in the same 2005 Saturn Ion parked outside the Crest Hill Domino’s Pizza when the police descended on them and took them into custody.

Mercer and Moore were in the back seat, police said, and so was about four grams of crack. They were both jailed on drug charges.

Mercer apparently owns the Saturn, as prosecutors have filed to take that away as well.
