Joliet Man With Domestic Battery Prior Conviction Must Be Detained Under SAFE-T-Act: Judge Ewanic
This marks the fourth time the 36-year-old Joliet man has been in Will County's Jail since September 2019. He lives on South Chicago Street.

JOLIET, IL — A 36-year-old Joliet man from the 1700 block of South Chicago Street, in the Preston Heights area, will remain in the Will County Jail indefinitely under the SAFE-T-Act after Will County Judge Derek Ewanic heard evidence surrounding last weekend arrest of Daniel Suarez-Becerril. The Joliet man faces four crimes of domestic battery following his Will County Sheriff's Office arrest last weekend.
According to the prosecution's petition to deny pretrial release, which was granted by Ewanic, Suarez already has a prior domestic battery conviction involving a different victim and he "has a history of violence."
Last Saturday, around 6:15 p.m., Will County Sheriff's deputies responded to their lobby at the sheriff's building on Laraway Road for a walk-in victim. The woman and her 11-year-old daughter reported that less 30 minutes earlier, Suarez and the woman had an argument.

Suarez pushed her to the floor, slapped her in the left cheek and pulled her hair, prosecutors allege. The victim managed to escape the attack and left the house with her kids to report the incident to the police, prosecutors said. The woman told Will County deputies that Suarez has been abusive in the past, both physically and verbally.
The police did not observe any physical injuries on the woman's body, but her 11-year-old daughter confirmed her mother's version of events, according to officials.

At the time of his arrest, prosecutors say Suarez told Will County sheriff's deputies there was an argument about money, and he pushed the woman away from him and pulled her hair.
Suarez was also in the Will County Jail on two different occasions in 2021 and once in 2019.
