JOLIET — For the second time in two months, 50-year-old Julio Villanueva was arrested by Joliet police, this time in connection with allegations of DUI and violating the conditions of his pretrial release. As a result, Villanueva is now being held in the Will County Jail because of the violation of pretrial release charges.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 12:33 a.m. July 1, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a Toyota Avalon at Eastern Avenue and East Jefferson Street for improper lane usage, disobeying a traffic control signal and speeding.

Villanueva was identified as the driver of the vehicle. While speaking to officers, Villanueva demonstrated behaviors consistent with possible alcohol impairment, and he indicated that he had drank alcohol prior to driving, English said.

According to police, Villanueva refused to perform field sobriety tests. He was placed into custody without incident. It was determined that Villanueva had violated a previous pretrial release order as it was learned that he had been released from the Will County Adult Detention Facility on June 9, 2024, on the order which indicated Villanueva to no violate any criminal statute.

Joliet police say that following Sunday's early morning arrest, Villanueva received citations for Improper Turn at Intersection, Improper Lane Usage, Speeding, Failure to Signal, Aggravated Speeding, Disobeyed Traffic Control Signal, and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.

On June 10, Joliet Patch reported that efforts by the Will County State's Attorney's Office of Jim Glasgow to keep Villanueva in the Will County Jail were unsuccessful as Will County's weekend judge, Rolonda Mitchell, ruled against them under the SAFE-T-Act. Villanueva was accused of holding a sharp knife against a victim's 4-year-old girl and threatening to kill the woman.

The prosecution's petition to deny pretrial release for Villanueva indicated that Joliet police arrived early Saturday and had to break the door open to get inside, and that Villanueva had the victim's 4-year-old daughter with him.
