Gang Member With Loaded Gun Pushes Joliet Officer During Arrest: JPD

At 10:55 p.m., Joliet officers conducted a traffic stop on a Lexus RX300 near Benton Street and Henderson Avenue for improper lane usage.

JOLIET — Joliet police officers managed to arrest 23-year-old Adrian Jimenez Jr. after he tried to run from a pat down search following a traffic stop on the city's east side. Joliet police recovered a loaded gun and cocaine that Jimenez was intending to sell around the community, arrest reports show.

Jimenez is now in the Will County Jail where he's facing charges of armed violence, unlawful use of a weapon by a street gang member, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, No FOID, unlawful possession of ammunition and obstructing a peace officer.

A second person was arrested, James Fox Jr. 30, Joliet, for having an outstanding Grundy County arrest warrant.

According to the Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English:

  • At 10:55 p.m. Friday, officers stopped a Lexus RX300 near Benton Street and Henderson Avenue for improper lane usage. The driver was identified as Fox, and he was placed into custody without incident after officers determined he had an active Grundy County warrant for failing to appear in court on previous traffic charges.
  • Jimenez was a passenger and officers requested Jimenez exit the vehicle and he complied.
  • Officers noticed a bulge in Jimenez’s waistband that was the shape of a handgun. An officer attempted to conduct a pat down search of Jimenez, but Jimenez pushed the officer’s hands away and ran.
  • Officers quickly caught up to Jimenez, and he was placed into custody without further incident.
  • Joliet police recovered a loaded handgun from Jimenez’s waistband, as well as suspected cocaine that appeared to be individually packaged for sale.
