JOLIET, IL — David Gregory, a 32-year-old Shorewood man from South Raven Road, is back in the Will County Jail for the fifth time since April. On Tuesday, Joliet police took him into custody on charges of obstructing a peace officer, violation of his bail-bond and two crimes of disorderly conduct in connection with allegations he was throwing bicycle tires at various vehicles traveling along the busy stretch of West Jefferson Street near the Reed Street traffic light.

Gregory has been the focus of numerous Joliet Patch crime articles in recent years, many of which involved crimes of violence back in his hometown of Shorewood. On Sept. 12, Gregory was the focus of a Joliet Patch story headlined, "Shorewood Criminal Lurks Inside Joliet's Parking Deck, Vows To Kill Woman In Her Car: Joliet PD."

This week, Gregory was arrested by the Joliet police force once again.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 3:41 p.m. Tuesday, an officer on patrol spotted Gregory standing near West Jefferson and Reed streets, blocking traffic. He was holding one bicycle tire in each of his hands and approaching the oncoming cars aggressively, English said.

When the officer stopped to speak with Gregory, police say the Shorewood man ran away from the officer.

Eventually, Gregory stopped running and placed his hands behind his back, English said.

However, while being placed into custody, Gregory tried to resist multiple times; he was eventually secured, English said.

"Upon further investigation, officers determined that Gregory allegedly threw the bike tires at vehicles after blocking their paths in traffic. No vehicles were damaged," English explained.

Back at the Joliet Police Department, officers realized that Gregory was out on pre-trial release from a prior criminal charge. Because of this, he was taken back to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, where he remained in custody as of Thursday evening.

Prior to Tuesday's Joliet police arrest, Gregory was also incarcerated in Will County's Jail:

  • Oct. 14-17 following a Shorewood police arrest.
  • July 25-28 following a Will County Sheriff's arrest.
  • On April 11 following a Shorewood police arrest for a parole violation.
  • March 28-April 7 following a Shorewood police arrest.
