Homeland Security Wants Mokena Man on Child Porn Charge

The unmarried retiree said he had no idea he was even under investigation.

MOKENA, IL — A Mokena man facing felony child pornography charges said he had no idea he was even the subject of a criminal investigation.

“You have caught me completely unaware,” said 68-year-old Thaddeus Augustyn.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security brought the case against Augustyn, according to the warrant for his arrest, which Augustyn said was news to him.

“They haven’t talked to me at all,” said Augustyn, an unmarried retiree who lives alone.

Augustyn faces two counts of child pornography. A criminal complaint filed in Will County court Friday said he possessed two digital images on a computer hard drive. One showed a naked girl apparently younger than 13 who was exposing her vagina, the complaint said, and the other a naked girl apparently younger than 18 exposing her vagina.

Augustyn possessed the images in February, the complaint said.

Augustyn said he has no knowledge of the feds searching his computer or confiscating it.

“I’m very confused,” he said.

The warrant for Augustyn’s arrest carries a $50,000 bond.
