Hooded Crooks Rob Man Trying to Buy iPhone That was Really Just a Bar of Soap

The victimized man had set up a deal to buy an iPhone but got robbed instead.

JOLIET, IL — A Crest Hill man who set up a deal on Facebook to buy an iPhone for $100 instead got robbed by three hooded crooks on Osgood Street.

The 20-year-old drove over to Osgood shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday. After he got out of his car, two men with hoods pulled tight over their faces appeared.

One of the hooded men produced an iPhone box and the prospective buyer showed his $100.

Suddenly, a third hooded man emerged from the shadows and took a swing at the money-holder’s head. He missed, but the man with the iPhone box grabbed the cash and all three ran off.

The cops found the iPhone box on the ground nearby. There was a bar of soap inside.
