Jewel Parking Lot Suicide Victim Was Stateville Prison Guard

The Plainfield man shot himself in the head in the supermarket parking lot, police said.

JOLIET, IL — A man who shot himself in the head while sitting in a car parked in the lot of the North Larkin Avenue Jewel had reportedly worked as a Stateville prison guard.

Andrew Bonderski, 27, was found dead in the driver’s seat of a Chevy Impala parked in the lot of the North Larkin Avenue Jewel Wednesday morning.

Police determined Bonderski, a Plainfield resident, committed suicide.

Bonderski was found with a bullet wound to his head, officials said. A black handgun was located inside the car, police said.

Police were called about a man slumped and motionless behind the wheel of a parked car shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday. Officers reviewed surveillance video and saw no one approach the black Impala after it pulled into the lot and parked.

Bonderski’s autopsy was scheduled for Thursday.

Bonderski was an Illinois Department of Corrections trainee in 2015 and worked as a correctional officer in 2016, according to the Ledger.
