Joliet Shoplifter Hits Walgreens, Walmart Before Capture: Cops

JOLIET, IL — A 35-year-old Joliet resident, Robert Diaz, was arrested by Joliet police this week in connection with one shoplifting crime that happened at the Walgreens store on West Jefferson Street and another shoplifting crime from this week at the Walmart store.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 2:09 p.m. Sept. 12, officers responded to Walgreens at 2101 W. Jefferson St. for a delayed report of retail theft. In that case, Diaz entered the store, selected over $40 worth of merchandise and left the store without paying, English said.

Officers obtained an arrest warrant for one count of retail theft on Oct. 17.

Then, at 10:48 p.m. Tuesday, Joliet officers responded to the Walmart at 2424 W. Jefferson St. for a retail theft. English said that a man, later identified as Diaz, entered Walmart and selected over $120 worth of merchandise and left the store without paying.

This time, Diaz was taken into custody without incident following a traffic stop in the 2400 block of West Jefferson Street. Diaz also faced the outstanding arrest warrant for the Walgreens retail theft in September. Diaz was processed at the Joliet Police Department and transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

Jail logs indicate that Diaz comes from the apartment units in the 600 block of North Broadway Street. He was released from the jail on Wednesday afternoon, the logs show.
