Joliet police say they eventually talked the man, Juve Rubio, into making a peaceful surrender, and he was delivered to the Will County Jail on charges of aggravated discharge of a gun and aggravated assault.

According to Joliet Police spokesman Dwayne English, at 1:17 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the Rubio house in the 600 block of East Cass Street for a report of a person who was shot at.

Officers learned that a 20-year-old man had arrived at the house to speak to Rubio regarding a dispute over money, English said.

Rubio was standing in the driveway when the victim arrived in a vehicle, and English said police believe that Rubio fired a handgun multiple times at the victim while he was inside his vehicle.

The victim’s vehicle was struck and became disabled. The victim was not struck by the gunfire.

That afternoon, Joliet's officers established a perimeter around the residence after information was developed that Rubio had retreated inside the home following the shooting. In time, Rubio exited his house and was placed into custody without further incident.

Detectives later obtained a search warrant for Rubio's house, where police say ammunition was recovered. A gun was not found, however.

Rubio was transported to the Joliet Police Department for questioning and then transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
