I am writing to inform you that JTHS Board of Education President, Dr. Tracy Spesia, has stepped down from her role on the School Board. Dr. Spesia submitted her resignation on September 8, moving Board of Education Vice President Frank Edmon, Jr. to the role of President, and leaving a vacant seat.

I am so grateful for Dr. Spesia’s unwavering dedication and service to our students, parents, staff, and community. Dr. Spesia began her service on the Board of Education in May of 2011. She is the proud mother of five Joliet West alumni and professionally, in her role as Experience Coordinator and School Partnership Liaison for the College of Education at the University of St. Francis, Dr. Spesia’s educational background has always been an asset to the District. Dr. Spesia has gone above and beyond in her role on the school board, serving on the Strategic Planning Team, Alumni Association Board, and District Improvement Team.

While Dr. Spesia will be greatly missed, I warmly welcome Mr. Edmon to the position of Board President. Mr. Edmon has served on the Board since June of 2017 and is a proud Joliet Central High School graduate who has children and grandchildren who have attended or are attending Joliet Central and West High School. Mr. Edmon always seeks first to understand so that he can make the very best decisions on behalf of all JTHS stakeholders. He has served on many District 204 committees including the Joliet Region Interfaith Education Committee, Strategy 6 Family and Community Group, and the Discipline Committee.

I would like to share Dr. Spesia’s sentiments regarding her service at JTHS. Dr. Spesia states, “I am grateful to the community for entrusting me with this responsibility, to the district employees who support students and families every day, and to the past and present board members with whom I have had the privilege to work with for the last nine years. JTHS District 204 is truly a special school district. Just a brief review of the Points of Pride 2019-20 provides a snap shot of the collective impact of the dedication, expertise, and deep care that personifies the JTHS family.”

The JTHS Board of Education will appoint someone to fill the vacant seat. Additional information will be communicated soon.

Dr. Karla Guseman
Superintendent
