JOLIET — Labor Day was not a day of rest for members of the Joliet Police Department and the Joliet Fire Department. After the sun went down, officers learned that a 33-year-old man was shot on the city's west side in the 600 block of Clement Street.

However, Joliet police quickly realized that their investigation into the crime encountered a setback, because several witnesses to the shooting did not want to help the officers capture the assailant, authorities noted.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 8:43 p.m., the officers responded to the 600 block of Clement Street for shots fired. As officers responded to the scene, it was learned that a man had been shot.

Officers found the 33-year- old man inside a vehicle behind a house in the 600 block of Clement Street with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the left knee.

It is believed that the victim was shot by someone outside the vehicle. People at the scene were uncooperative with the officers and refused to provide further information as to what had occurred. During a canvass of the area, the officers recovered spent shell casings from the alleyway behind the residence. The victim was taken to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department.
