JOLIET — A 30-year-old Joliet man from the 0 to 100 block of North Cagwin Avenue remains in the Will County Jail under the SAFE-T-Act in connection with his latest domestic battery arrest by the Joliet police. Officers took Christopher Zamora away in handcuffs during the late night hours of Aug. 15. His arrest happened on the city's east side, in the 200 block of Sherman Street.

According to the petition to deny Zamora pretrial release, at 10:42 p.m., the officers responded to Sherman Street and Zamora's girlfriend told them that Zamora had attacked his sister, hitting her in the face. The victim relayed that Zamora headbutted her in the face, causing a deep cut in the bridge of her nose, the petition notes.

The Joliet Fire Department paramedics arrived and alerted Joliet police that the victim's nose may be broken.

According to prosecutors, Zamora's girlfriend told Joliet police that he was very intoxicated and began to argue with her, so she called his sister to come talk with Zamora and ask him to leave for the night to avoid more conflict. When the sister arrived, Zamora began to argue with her about their grandmother being in the hospital. Zamora's girlfriend heard his sister yell, "My face is bleeding," court documents show.

And that's when she saw the victim's face had blood on it, prosecutors said. Zamora's girlfriend entered the bedroom and the victim pushed Zamora out of the room, closing the door as 911 was called, the petition states.

Zamora's girlfriend helped the victim complete her written police statement, and Joliet police took photos of her injuries and placed them into evidence.

As for Zamora, Joliet police found him hiding in the rear passenger seat of one of the parked vehicles in the back of the Sherman Street apartment. He was taken into custody, his third trip to the Will County Jail since 2016.

"The defendant's criminal history tends to indicate a violent, abusive or assaultive nature," the Will County assistant state's attorneys noted.

In 2016, Zamora was convicted of domestic battery in Cook County and in 2013, he was convicted of two separate crimes of domestic battery, also in Cook County.
