Outlaws Flying Confederate Flag From Joliet Clubhouse
The motorcycle club has been flying a Confederate flag at its East Washington Street building.

JOLIET, IL — You can’t watch the “Dukes of Hazzard” on TV Land anymore, but if you’re still dying to get a look at someone celebrating the Confederate flag, you can stop by the Outlaws’ clubhouse on East Washington Street.
The motorcycle club has been flying the flag for months, one neighbor said.
Patch reached out to the Outlaws through the club’s website and asked if the flag was flown as a symbol of racism and did get a response. But the sender asked not to be quoted.

Last year, a local pastor suggested the Joliet Park District buy the Outlaws’ clubhouse to get the group out of the area. The pastor, Leona Tichenor, felt the motorcycle club was a less-than-suitable neighbor for a playground that was to be refurbished.
“Formerly a neighborhood grocery store where children of past generations enjoyed buying penny candy and other treats, the building in front of the park now advertises its current use with the club insignia of a skull and pistons painted on the outside and the club motto ‘God forgives, Outlaws don’t,’” Tichenor said in a April 2016 letter to Patch.
