Package Thief Got Cold Feet, Brought Back Ill-Gotten Gains: Homeowner

The crook covered his face with a mask and crept along the wall of the house to stay out of the camera's eye, the victimized man said.

JOLIET, IL — A package-picking crook caught on video stealing a neighbor’s FedEx delivery came creeping back wearing a mask to put back what he stole, the victimized homeowner told Patch.

“He came back and put back the package but since he knew that we have a camera he was wearing a mask and he came all along the house where the camera can't see,” Guillermo Moreno said of the man who stole a FedEx delivery left on his porch late Thursday morning.

Moreno said a neighbor witnessed the masked man putting the package back on his porch. The neighbor also watched the sneaky package pirate dash back to his nearby home.

“The neighbor told me how he saw him run to my house with a facemask on, basically against the wall of the house, and throw the package in front of my door and run back,” Moreno said.

Moreno said he notified the police, who had taken a report on the theft earlier Thursday, and even told them where the louse lives. But Moreno says the law told him they are powerless to do anything about it since the sticky-fingered stooge returned what he had stolen.

The police have yet to return a call Patch made about the case Wednesday afternoon.

The regretful thief must have seen video of him stealing posted by Patch and on Facebook, and he took measures to make sure he did not appear on video again.

“I wish I could've got (video of his return) but he came into the area where the camera didn't catch him, really close next to the wall of the house,” Moreno said.
