Pedestrian Tunnel Closed For a Few Days
The tunnel will be closed from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., probably for three days.

JOLIET, IL — The New Street pedestrian tunnel was closed down this morning and will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day, probably for three days, the city announced.
“As part of the continued work on the Joliet Gateway Center transportation campus, pedestrian tunnels near the train station will be closed in phases for construction activities beginning Monday, February 13, 2017,” the city said in a statement.
The New Street tunnel closure is part of the first phase of tunnel closings. The Union Station pedestrian tunnel will close for the second phase. The sidewalk on the west side of Mayor Art Schultz Drive will also be be closed during the second phase.

“Northbound Mayor Art Schultz Drive will be maintained for continuous access to the Metra ticket trailer and parking area,” the city said.
