Roommate Bitten, Rushed To St. Joe's Hospital: Joliet Police

JOLIET — A 40-year-old Chicago man is no longer in the Will County Jail following last weekend's arrest by Joliet police after his roommate suffered bite wounds and needed to be taken to St. Joe's hospital by ambulance.

Joliet police say Francisco Tavares-Alvarez was arrested and brought to the Will County Jail on charges of aggravated domestic battery.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said at 3:56 a.m., officers responded to the 2100 block of Capri Avenue for a disturbance. The police learned that a man was seen pulling another man out of a vehicle.

At the crime scene, the officers saw Tavarez-Alvarez standing over the male victim, who had visible injuries to his face. According to police, officers determined that Tavarez-Alvarez grew angry at the victim, at which time he began biting the victim, causing significant damage to the victim’s ear and mouth.

The victim and Tavares-Alvarez are roommates, police said. The victim was taken to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department. Tavares-Alvarez was placed into custody without incident.

Will County Jail records indicate that Tavares was out of detention on Monday after his court appearance.
