JOLIET, IL — Michael Davis, a 43-year-old Joliet man from the 800 block of West Jefferson Street, has lost his pretrial detention hearing under the SAFE-T-Act in connection last week's arrest by Joliet police on charges of vehicular hijacking, aggravated domestic battery, three domestic batteries and one interfering with the reporting of domestic violence charge.

According to prosecutors, Joliet officer Jenny Manishirov was called to the 300 block of North Broadway for a vehicle theft on July 31. The victim indicated that an argument began with Davis over Davis communicating with other females. The woman told Joliet police she poked Davis in the buttocks to get his attention and he became very upset. When she tried to exit her apartment building, he followed her to her 2017 blue Chevrolet Cruz and began to choke her with his right hand, court files show.

After the woman fell to the floor and could not breathe, Davis then slapped her with his right hand, striking her near her left eye; and when the woman reached her vehicle, Davis bit her left arm and he snatched the keys from her hand, according to prosecutors.
