Squad Car Hit By Fleeing Fugitive Who's Now In Custody: Will County Sheriff

The suspect, a wanted fugitive according to police, was handcuffed and turned over to the custody of the Channahon Police Department.

JOLIET, IL — The Will County Sheriff's Office issued a Facebook bulletin on Friday morning revealing what happened on Thursday night in regard to a police chase.

According to Will County police, at approximately 11:35 p.m., deputies with the Will County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist the Channahon Police Department and other agencies in a vehicle pursuit involving a wanted fugitive.

During the course of the pursuit, the suspect's vehicle struck a Will County Sheriff’s patrol car occupied by a deputy in the parking lot of a gas station located in the 3000 block of Plainfield Road in Joliet. The deputy was unharmed, authorities said.

Will County officials said the pursuit continued until the suspect’s vehicle became disabled near the intersection of 143rd Street and Interstate 355 in Homer Township. After the suspect refused multiple commands to exit the vehicle, deputies were forced to break a window in order to take the person into custody, police said. The suspect was handcuffed and turned over to the custody of the Channahon Police Department.
