Wife Slain in Murder-Suicide Had Accused 'Martial Arts' Expert Husband of Inflicting ‘Severe’ Skull Laceration

The husband accused his wife of trying to run him over with an SUV.

JOLIET, IL — A woman apparently killed by her husband before he took his own life had accused him of once bashing in her head, and he claimed she tried to run him over with a sport utility vehicle, according to filings in Will County court.

Angel Morgan, 42, and Patrick Morgan, 49, were found dead in their North Bluff Street apartment early Sunday by a concerned relative who went looking for them.

Angel Morgan had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and Patrick Morgan had been shot just once, according to Will County Coroner Patrick O’Neil’s office. A handgun was found by the bodies, police said.

Angel Morgan had filed to divorce her husband in May. In her petition, she said she “suffered a severe laceration to (her) skull at (her) spouse’s hand in the past, and years of physical abuse where he used martial arts on” her.

Patrick Morgan denied the allegations. Angel Morgan dismissed her divorce case less than four months ago.

In March, Patrick Morgan claimed his wife slammed the trunk of their SUV off his head before attempting to run him over. He also told of a “verbal altercation” with his “supposed friend Johnny Ray, about coveting (his) wife and frequenting (his) home.”

The Morgans’ two sons, Amari Morgan, 18, and Blaique Morgan, 20, are in custody at the Will County jail for allegedly murdering their 62-year-old next-door neighbor, Robert Bielec, in January 2016.

Bielec had just pulled into the driveway of his Houston Avenue home when the Morgan brothers walked up and confronted him about an “ongoing dispute,” Assistant State’s Attorney John Connor said during their bond hearing.

During the ensuing argument, Bielec made a sexual remark about the Morgans’ little sister, Connor said. Amari Morgan then allegedly swung a bat at Bielec’s head, killing him.

Bielec’s “skull was caved in,” Connor said.

Bielec’s female roommate reportedly heard the commotion outside her home. When she went to see what was going on, she found Bielec dead in the driveway.
