Wreaths Across America Donated and Placed By Joliet Central Students

From the Joliet Township High School District:

JOLIET, IL — Joliet Central High School Adapted Physical Education students and Peer Trainers participated in Wreaths Across America this year by contributing 18 wreaths.

“The students chose the Wreaths Across America as their service project for the year,” said central teacher Patti Edwards. “We donated $600 from our car wash fund raiser to purchase the kits. The wreaths were placed December 17 at Abraham Lincoln Cemetery for the veterans.”

A veterans’ wreath is a symbol of honor, respect, and victory. The ten balsam bouquets equal special qualities comprising each veterans’ wreath that our veterans embody – faith, love for each other, strength, work ethic, character, honesty, humility, selflessness, modesty, ambitions and aspirations, optimism for America, concern for the future, pride in their duties. The evergreens represents longevity and endurance. The red bow symbolizes great sacrifice, the forest scent represents purity and simplicity and the circular shape symbolizes eternity. The mission is to Remember, Honor, and Teach.

On December 17 at Abraham Lincolns’ Cemetery, a person would say the veterans’ name and place the wreath on the grave. Morrill Worcester, founder of Wreaths Across America stated it the best. He stated, “It is your personal gift to an American hero, and you’ll swell with pride, have a tear in your eye knowing you’ve done something special for our veterans and families.”
