Not surprisingly, members of the radical left are spreading misinformation about the source and reasons for the most recent government shutdown.
Let's start at the beginning. It was the Democrats, under pressure from their radical left base, that shutdown the government. Unless they received their $450 billion in additional health care spending they were going to let the government shutdown. That is exactly what happened. A reasonable proposal by the Republicans to discuss healthcare funding after the continuing resolution was passed was rejected by the Democrats. The Democrats own the shutdown.
Now, let's turn to the reason why there is a conflict. The Democrats (Socialists) in 2021 passed supercharged ObamaCare subsidies for everyone, including those making above 400% of the poverty level, in response to a Covid emergency that ended long ago. They set a 2025 expiration to make their bloated Inflation Reduction Act look less expensive over 10 years. They must have also believed that they would remain in power forever and could just extend the subsidies forever. Now the proverbial chickens are coming home to roost for them, and they are spreading panic - their usual tactic.

Let's turn to some facts. The Wall Street Journal (9/25/2025) shows that someone at the 100% poverty level would pay only $3.45/week for a middle tier plan. Someone at 250% of the poverty level would pay $52/week with taxpayers picking up 2/3 of the premium. Making these plans "free" has allowed insurers to get paid for people who may not even know they are enrolled. According to the Journal, some 40% of those in fully subsidized plans had zero claims in 2024. Some 4 million people are foregoing BETTER employer-based coverage because of the enhanced subsidies. Those are 4 million people that taxpayers would not be subsidizing.
The Democrats price for keeping the government open is an additional $450 billion dollars in spending in a country that is drowning in debt.

The simple fact is that every Republican voted to keep the government open while Democrats voted to shut it down. Don't be misled that the shutdown is "Republican-Driven".
