Riverside Cops Release Numbers on DUIs, Speeding Tickets During Super Bowl Weekend

Twenty-four traffic violations in total were cited over three days.

Increased patrols during Super Bowl weekend by Riverside cops resulted in 24 traffic arrests during a three-day span, according to a release from the department.

The Illinois Department of Transportation provided funds for increased police activity last weekend, since it's one notorious for parties and drinking. The Riverside Police Department, as well as several others in the western suburbs, participate in the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Click It or Ticket" campaigns and routinely crack down on patrols around holidays and big events.

Between Feb. 3 and Feb. 6, cops caught these violations:

  • 1 DUI arrest
  • 4 seat belt violations
  • 5 speeding tickets
  • 14 other traffic citations

"Motorists should continue to heed the warning that we are serious about cracking down on impaired drivers and seat belt law violators," Sergeant Jeff Miller said in the release. "We do it to save lives."
