Armed Suspects Take Cash During Robbery At Papa John's Pizza Restaurant In Waukegan

Two employees were working inside the business at the time of the robbery, according to a summary police report.

Two suspects robbed a Papa John’s Pizza restaurant in Waukegan at gunpoint early Tuesday morning and fled with cash.

The Waukegan Police Department responded around 12:03 a.m. Tuesday to Papa John’s, 1321 North Green Bay Road in Waukegan, for a report of an armed robbery.

Two employees were working inside the business at the time of the robbery, according to a summary police report.

Two offenders, at least one of them armed with a handgun, entered the business and ordered the employees to get on the ground.

The cash register and safe were opened and the suspects took cash, the report said.

The offenders also damaged the digital video recording system that is used to store security footage.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said the sheriff’s office was requested to the scene to assist in a search for the suspects.

Lake County Sheriff Deputy John Forlenza and Canine Dax responded to the scene.

They conducted a track that ended about a block away from the location of the armed robbery, Covelli said.

The suspects were not located. The incident remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department.
