Can Lake Forest Workers Afford to Live Here?

A Chicago Tribune report raises the question of diversity and affordable housing in Lake Forest.

A recent story in the Chicago Tribune talks to a local realtor who says skyrocketing home prices are keeping police, firefighters, teachers and other public employees from living where they work.

According to the story, only one Lake Forest police officer actually lives in Lake Forest.

"It's too bad that we don't have the diversity that we once had," realtor Tom Grant told the Tribune. "But I don't know how you change it, frankly. It's just what the market is."

In April, a community engagement forum was held to discuss Lake Forest's housing options, reported Patch. A recent Patch poll had readers debating whether cheaper housing would diminish Lake Forest as an affluent community.
