Community Volunteer From Lake Forest Secures $5K Grant For Nonprofit
Utility company ComEd awarded one employee from Lake Forest for her volunteer efforts to better her community.
LAKE FOREST, IL — A Lake Forester's efforts to better her community secured a $5,000 grant for a nonprofit program that helps young students build literacy skills by bringing reading assistance dogs into classrooms.
This year marks the 20th year that ComEd has given Employee Volunteer Awards, a program that celebrates employees who go above and beyond to make a difference in their communities. One of this year's honorees is Christina Ho, a Senior Project Manager at ComEd who volunteers with SitStayRead.
As development chair on the board of directors at SitStayRead, Ho leads fundraising efforts that keep these reading programs running in Chicago public schools, libraries and charter schools. She has helped expand sponsor support, launched a fall read-a-thon fundraiser and coordinated volunteer appreciation events.

"Christina finds the most rewarding moments in the classroom — watching children light up with excitement as they read their stories aloud to calm, attentive reading-assistance dogs," a ComEd spokesperson said.
To qualify for the award, employees must contribute at least 30 hours of volunteer service in a single year. Each recipient earns a $5,000 grant for the nonprofit organization of their choice.
