Firefighters Rescue Dog After Extinguishing Kitchen Fire In Knollwood

Crews found a neighbor's dog while searching the apartment building following a blaze believed to have begun from a cooking accident.

LAKE FOREST, IL — Fire crews saved a dog and extinguished a fire in a second-floor apartment in Knollwood, according to the Lake Forest Fire Department.

First reported shortly after 5:30 p.m., the blaze began in the kitchen of a mixed-use building at 215 Waukegan Road in unincorporated Lake Bluff. Firefighters arrived to find smoke pouring from the second floor.

Crews from the Lake Forest and Libertyville fire departments entered the east side of the building, teamed up to extinguish the flames and conducted a thorough search.

During the search, firefighters rescued a dog from a neighboring apartment.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though officials suspect it stemmed from a cooking mishap.

No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported. Assistance came from Deerfield, Highland Park, Lake Bluff, and other nearby departments.
