Firefighters Rescue Dog From Burning Lake Forest Duplex

One police officer was treated for smoke inhalation, and no residents were injured, fire officials said.

LAKE FOREST, IL — Fire crews rescued a dog from a burning duplex in Lake Forest on Sunday.

Fire officials said firefighters were dispatched to a report of a fire on South Maywood Road shortly before 3:30 p.m.

On their way, they learned that flames had been spotted from the windows of a duplex.

Firefighters arrived, found smoke coming from the kitchen of one of the units and quickly extinguished it, according to Lake Forest Fire Department Battalion Chief Andrew Allen.

During an initial search, firefighters were able to rescue a homeowner's dog with help from police at the scene. Fire crews then worked to make sure the fire was completely extinguished.

It was not clear if anyone was home at the time, but Allen said there were no reported injuries to any residents.

However, one police officer was treated for smoke inhalation and later released.

Fire departments from Lincolnshire, Lake Bluff, Wheeling and North Chicago assisted Lake Forest in the response.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
