Lake Forest Grad Named Commander of Navy Warship
CDR Corey Turner was recently named commander of the USS Michael Murphy, based in Pearl Harbor.

Corey Turner, a 1991 graduate of Lake Forest High School, was recently named commander of the USS Michael Murphy by the U.S. Navy, reported the Gazebo News.
CDR Turner, who graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1995 earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, formerly held the position of the warship's Executive Officer, according to his Navy biography.
CDR Turner’s personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal; Navy Commendation Medal (two gold stars); Navy Achievement Medal (one gold star) and various individual and unit service ribbons.
The USS Michael Murphy is named for LT Michael Murphy, who died June 28 2005. LT Murphy was in-charge of a four-man Navy SEAL team charged with finding key anti-coalition militia commander near Asadabad, Afghanistan, according to www.sealofhonor.com. LT Murphy knowingly exposed himself to continued enemy gunfire to call headquarters for backup, which ultimately resulted in death of 35 Taliban.
