Lake Forest Obituary: John Haas, 87

John passed peacefully in his sleep after living a very full and active life.

Born in Evanston and raised in Lake Forest, Illinois, John’s childhood and adult life were full of adventures (and mis-adventures) that would rival those of Tom Sawyer and Walter Mitty combined - if you believed all his stories!

Shortly after being discharged from the U.S. Marines, John married Patricia Secord, adopted her two young boys, then had a daughter with Pat. The spirit of adventure, healthy competition, and living life fully was passed on to their children; all of whom are grateful and proud of their parents.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Patricia and John Haas Sr.; his nephew, Rob Appleton; and his son, Mark Haas. He is survived by countless friends; his sister, Patsy Johnson; his daughter, Hilary Orozco and her family, Randy, Taylor and Sam; his son, Michael Haas and his family, Mia and Ben.

There was a private memorial service with family members giving John’s ashes to the sea he loved so dearly. We ask that all his friends share your joy with as many as you can.
