Lorene Elizabeth Hutchinson (McNutt), passed away peacefully October 14th at the age of 92, with her daughter Lori by her side.

Lorene was born Sept 21, 1931, to Elmer and Eula McNutt in Douglas Township, a small farming community in central Illinois. Lorene’s early years were happy ones on the farm. She loved recounting stories of her time with her cousins and especially her Dad, who she lost at the age of 13. Lorene was a loving and loyal daughter to her Mother, and for the next 58 years they would share the joys and sorrows of life together, with their faith in Jesus Christ being their guiding light.

When Lorene graduated from high school she pursued a career with United Airlines as a “stewardess”. She loved flying and was based out of Boston. Her beauty and poise caught the eye of her superiors, and she was chosen to represent the airlines several times, in news articles promoting United’s relationships with other companies, and to greet prominent visitors to Boston as an ambassador of sorts for United. Lorene met the love of her life, Bill Hutchinson, at a dance in Kankakee, IL. She retired her wings, and they married in the summer of 1954. Bill and Lorene were overjoyed by the birth of their daughter, Lori, in the fall of 1959 and moved to Lincoln, Il soon after for Bill’s job. Bill and Lorene enjoyed 37 years of marriage before Bill’s untimely passing in August of 1991. They traveled the world together and spent many vacations with Lori and their close friends in Naples, Florida.

Lorene moved to Libertyville Il in 1993 to be closer to Lori, her beloved son in law ,Craig, and her grandchildren Grant and Paige. She loved supporting her grandchildren in all of their endeavors from flag football to dance contests to college visits, and took incredible joy from her great grandchildren Craig, Taylor, Colin, Charlie, and Laine.

Lorene was a dedicated follower of Christ and an avid participant and servant in her home church, Lincoln Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school and helped with Vacation bible school each summer. Once settled in Libertyville, she attended and volunteered at various Bible studies at Christ Church for many decades as well as attending Community Bible Study. Lorene served the Lord quietly, visiting shut ins in her neighborhood and telling them about Jesus. Her gift of hospitality was well known both in Lincoln and Libertyville, and she loved cooking for her family. She was an amazing cook and often took meals for her friends if they were under the weather, or to be shared in their groups. Many of her recipes live on through her grandchildren and still grace the holiday table.
