
Mary Ellen Holstein, of Lake Bluff, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday morning September 7th at the age of 84.
Daughter of Eugene and Venice Sammon, she was born in Madison, Wisconsin, and moved with her family to Great Lake Naval Base in IL in 1945, later moving to Shore Acres Country Club where her father was the Club Manager. She attended Lake Forest High School, where she became prom and homecoming queen and met her late husband Arther George Holstein III (George) to whom she was married for 52 years. She earned a nursing degree at Northwestern University, later working there and then as the head nurse of the maternity ward at Lake Forest Hospital.
She is survived by her brother, Michael, her sons Michael and Arthur (Lisa), and her two grandchildren Hunter and Quin.

Mary Ellen loved a good sunset, listening to Dave Brubeck and above all spending time in her garden with family, friends, her dog Toby and a glass of white wine. A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, friend and neighbor to many, she will be missed.
