On August 30, 2024, Mary Peddle of Waukegan died peacefully in home hospice care after a long illness. She was 75 years old.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Michael in 2018 and her mother Louella in 1983.
Born in Wausau, Wisconsin, Mary grew up a "navy brat," living in several different places including Guam.

In 1970, Mary graduated with a degree in elementary education from Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin. She met Michael in California, and after their marriage they settled in Waukegan, where she began a 35-year career in the city's school district. First as a classroom teacher, she went on to earn a master’s degree in special education and worked with special needs students of all ages in several of the district's grade schools. During her long career Mary received many awards and citations, both from the district and the City of Waukegan.
Though she enjoyed traveling and touring with Michael, she was happiest when at home taking care of the house and their basset hounds.

Mary was known as a kind, thoughtful and generous person by her many friends, as well as the hundreds of students whose lives she touched during her long career. She will be missed by all.
