Navy Offers Civilian Jobs On The Spot At Great Lakes Hiring Fair

Naval Station Great Lakes will be holding an Aug. 13 hiring fair, offering immediate employment to qualified applicants.

GREAT LAKES, IL — The U.S. Navy will offer jobs on the spot to qualified candidates at a job fair next month at Naval Station Great Lakes.

Representatives of the Navy's Child and Youth Programs and the Morale, Welfare and Recreation programs will be looking for civilian workers, offering on-site qualification screening, interviews and orientations at the Aug. 13 fair, Navy officials announced.

“Ensuring we have talented team members is vital in our support of the Sailors and families of Great Lakes,” said Capt. Jason Williamson, commanding officer of Naval Station Great Lakes, in a statement. “We are looking forward to welcoming new team members who will support the mission here at the quarterdeck of the Navy to train every new Sailor in the U.S. Navy.”

Child and Youth Programs, CYP, at Great Lakes provides care for children ranging from 6 weeks to 18 years old. To be eligible for a full-time or part-time caregiver job, applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a GED or high school diploma.

“Be prepared to stay until 2 p.m. as tentative hire letters will be issued the same day,” said CYP Program Director Jenee Barnett.

“All applicants should bring their resume, a photo ID card, SSN card, certifications (CPR, etc.), high school diploma/GED or college transcripts if applicable, and bank account and routing numbers for direct deposit payments," Barnett said in a statement. "CYP applicants are requested to bring three references or letters of recommendation (two professional, one personal).”

The Navy's Morale, Welfare and Recreation services include programs like the golf course, gyms, aquatics programs, library, rec centers, food and beverage centers, marina and special events.

Open jobs include recreational aide, cook, custodian and lifeguards, according to the Applicants must be at last 16 years old to be considered for recreational positions.

The Aug. 13 hiring fair is scheduled to take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Great Lakes Community Center in Forrestal Village, 2007 Virginia Ave.
