Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Freight Train In Lake Forest

Lake Forest police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck by a freight train Friday afternoon.

LAKE FOREST, IL — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a freight train Friday afternoon, according to the Lake Forest Fire Department.

The collision happened at approximately 12:09 p.m. near the Lake Forest West Metra Train Station near Conway Road and Waukegan Road, officials said. Both the Lake Forest Police and Fire departments responded to the scene.

Fire Department officials told Patch the pedestrian was declared dead at the scene.

The train was a freight rain numbered #CP249, and was not a Metra train, Metra officials told Patch. Trains were shut down for a brief time, but are now running on a single track, according to Metra.

Travelers may experience delays while the investigation is ongoing. The Lake Forest Police Department is still on the scene.
