
Robert Dennis Nolan, 80, of Lake Bluff, IL, passed away peacefully on August 22nd after a long battle with emphysema.
Rob was born on May 5th, 1944, to Herbert and Katherine Nolan in Evanston, IL. Rob graduated from Riverside Brookfield High School in 1962, and went on to study advertising at The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
In 1966, after graduating college with honors, Rob started his first job at the prominent Chicago advertising firm Leo Burnett as a copy trainee, kickstarting an over thirty-year creative career with the company. Among the many accounts he managed included McDonalds, Heinz, Kelloggs, Pillsbury, and Proctor & Gamble, creating brand-defining campaigns and jingles that became nationally well-known. When he retired in 1996, Rob was a Senior Vice President of Creative and a member of the Board of Directors. Rob served for many years on the board of the Jonathan Fisher Historical House in Blue Hill, Maine.

Rob was a huge British history buff, was fascinated by genealogy, and wrote many books for the family tracing their lineage. Rob’s novella, The Thirteenth Time Machine, was optioned by Legendary Tobis Television in 2023. He also loved the Beatles and owned every book about them and album they released.
In 1961, Rob met Joyce Ross at Riverside Brookfield High School; they married in 1965 and had two beloved daughters, Laura and Tia. In their long, happy marriage, Rob and Joyce enjoyed travel, cooking, watching movies and British television, and a few dogs. Most of all, they loved spending time with their grandchildren on both coasts.

Robert is survived by his wife, Joyce Nolan, his daughters, Laura Nolan (Morris) (married to Gary Morris) of Brooklyn, New York, and Tia Nolan (Schneiderman) (married to David Schneiderman) of Los Angeles, California, and his grandchildren, Kate, Nolan, Max, and Veronica.
