Shot In Back, Found In Car, Waukegan Woman Dies At Hospital, Coroner Says

WAUKEGAN, IL — A woman was found shot inside a car Tuesday in Waukegan, authorities said.

Waukegan police and fire crews were called to the intersection of Melrose and Elmwood streets for a report of a gunshot victim in a vehicle.

Yessenia Novoa-Poveda, 48, of Waukegan, was rushed to Vista Medical Center East, where she was pronounced dead in the emergency room despite efforts to save her life, according to the Lake County Coroner's Office.

An autopsy conducted Wednesday confirmed that Novoa-Poveda died from a gunshot wound to the back.

Waukegan police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
