Nun Fatally Struck by Metra Train in Highwood Tuesday Morning

She was hit near the Highwood station, just before 8 a.m.

The pedestrian hit and killed by a train Tuesday was a nun from the nearby St. James Convent in Highwood, accoring to ABC Chicago.

Sister Udochukwu Odoemena, 68, had walked a friend to the train and was walking away from the tracks when she realized she had her friend’s bag, the station reports. She walked back across the tracks, perhaps not knowing that the incoming train was an express and wasn’t stopping, and was struck.

A woman was fatally struck by a Metra train near the Highwood station just before 8 a.m. Tuesday morning, according to an article in the Lake County News Sun.

Trains into and out of Chicago were delayed due to the incident, the article says. The woman, who was a pedestrian, was pronounced dead at Highland Park Hospital.
