Building Evacuated After Drill Collapse Near Bryn Mawr CTA Tracks
Fire and police officials responded to the drill rig collapse in the Edgewater neighborhood Wednesday which shut down power lines.

CHICAGO — A drill rig collapsed at the Bryn Mawr Red Line station in Edgewater Wednesday evening, temporarily halting CTA service, local officials announced Wednesday.
Service was halted for Red and Purple lines going north and south between Belmont and Howard stops for about an hour from 4 p.m., the Chicago Transit Authority announced.
Chicago fire and police officials were on the scene at 1119 West Bryn Mawr Avenue responding to the collapsed machinery, which was originally reported as a crane. Alderman Harry Osterman (48th) said in a social media statement one minor injury was reported but a Chicago Fire Department official said in a later press conference that no one was injured.

One building was struck by the rig and had to be evacuated, according to a spokesman. Residents of the building will be put up in hotels for the night as a precaution, fire officials said.
Cranes and construction crews have been in the area working on the Red-Purple Modernization project since October of 2019. Berwyn and Lawrence Red Line stations are closed for rebuilding, leaving Bryn Mawr one of the closest accessible CTA train stations for Far North Siders.
