"A week prior to the release of the 2013 Michelin Guide, the highly regarded restaurant rating group announced the recipients of its Bib Gourmand designations," Tunney wrote in his newsletter. "There were 64 Chicago-area restaurants given this 2013 distinction, and the 44th Ward is home to 3 of these restaurants: Chilam Balam, Wood and my own Ann Sather... I am very proud of this accomplishment for both the 44th Ward and our City."

The Bib Gourmand designation is given to the rating group's favorite restaurants in an affordable price range—less than $40 for two courses and a dessert, according to Tunney.

The report says that this year's list includes an increased showing from Chicago restaurants compared to last year's 56, and that 19 of this year's Bib Gourmand recipients earned the honor for the first time.

Eleven Chicago restaurants from last year's list were removed from the 2013 list.

Among those not listed is local eatery, Perennial Virant, 1800 N. Lincoln Ave.

"Of the 11 culled restaurants, only one has reason to be happy: Perennial Virant, whose absence from the Bib Gourmand list may mean a Michelin star rating is in its immediate future. (A restaurant cannot be a star recipient and Bib Gourmand winner simultaneously.)," the Chicago Tribune reports.
