Boy, 9, Struck And Killed By Off-Duty Cop While Riding Bike: FOP
Hershel Weinberger was riding his bike home in West Rogers Park on Wednesday evening when he was hit by a truck driven by a Chicago officer.

ROGERS PARK, IL — A 9-year-old boy was struck and killed by a truck while riding his bicycle home Wednesday evening in West Rogers Park, officials said.
The truck that fatally struck the child was driven by an off-duty police officer, according to reports from the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police president John Catanzara Jr.
Catanzara told the Chicago Sun-Times that the officer didn't see the young boy, who was riding on the sidewalk in the 7300 block of North Sacramento Avenue around 8 p.m.

The child, identified as Hershel Weinberger, was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston where he was pronounced dead later that night.
The officer took a Breathalyzer test that was negative, Catanzara said.

Chicago police spokeswoman Kellie Bartoli confirmed the 48-year-old officer remained on the scene.
Police said no citations or charges have been filed.
