Accused '50 Shades of Grey' Rapist Freed on Thursday
No probable cause to hold teen who bound and gagged classmate in violent sex act last month, says judge.

After listening to the young woman who accused her friend and college classmate of raping her in a violent “50 Shades of Grey” fantasy, a Cook County judge let the 19-year-old freshman go free on Thursday.
Judge Peggy Chiampas said the prosecutors failed to meet their burden proof and she ruled there was no probable cause to hold Mohammad Hossain, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.
“This doesn’t mean this is over,” Chiampas warned Hossain, because prosecutors still could take the case to a grand jury.

Hossain told police the sex, during which the woman was bound, gagged and beaten with fists, was consensual. The woman said she had engaged in sex with Hossain in the past, and agreed to let him tie her up, but she did not consent to sex last month in his UIC dorm room.
“This kid is a star. He is a top-notch student,” defense attorney Joshua Kutnick told reporters after a hearing last week. Hossain is a bio-nuclear engineering student at the University of Illinois at Chicago. “This is not a rapist.”
